In the past, the only way to get rid of unwanted hair was by shaving, waxing, tweezing, plucking, or electrolysis, but often times, those methods are time-consuming, painful, and minimally effective. Thank goodness for the advent of laser hair removal! Contact RSVP Med Spa if you're interested in laser hair removal in Kansas City.
Laser Hair Removal is Only for Dark Hair
Whether you have small amounts of hair or a carpet of hair on your body, if it's dark hair, we can eliminate it with laser hair removal procedures. For thick, coarse hair, more than one treatment may be required. In these cases, treatments are typically set apart in eight-week intervals to reduce our clients' exposure to excessive laser energy.
Unfortunately, laser hair removal does not work for blond, white, grey, or even red hair. The reason for this is that there is a layer of pigment surrounding each hair follicle underneath the skin. Laser energy is invisible light energy that goes right through the skin until it hits something dark like the pigment and the hair shaft. Therefore, laser hair removal only works for dark hair. As the laser energy is absorbed by the dark pigment and the hair shaft, it is converted to heat. It's the heat that actually kills the hair follicle.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe for My Health?
At RSVP Med Spa, we often treat clients who want to remove pesky and unsightly hair from the bikini line, underneath the armpits, on the back and sides of the neck, on the back, the stomach, and on the chest, and other places as well, such as the arms and the legs. Naturally, our clients are curious to know if laser hair removal is safe for them. Will it damage the skin? Will laser hair removal cause cancer?
The answer is that laser hair removal from RSVP Med Spa is safe. However, there is a caveat. Laser hair removal uses lasers that expose the skin to radiation. These lasers target the hair follicles and reduce their size or destroy them completely. The risk is chiefly associated with using a substandard machine, such as a machine not approved by the USFDA. For example, cheaper, usually Chinese-made machines, may not be manufactured or set to standards which are safe for the skin.
Burn injuries are the most common health risks associated with using poorly manufactured laser hair removal machines or quality machines not set to approved standards and/or operated by someone not qualified to perform the procedure.
Are You Ready for Laser Hair Removal in Kansas City?
We treat both men and women, boys and girls. The only area of the body that we cannot treat is the lower edge of the eyebrow. We can treat the upper edge. The reason we can't treat the lower edge is because, in order to protect the eye, the laser would have to be pointed upward and would then kill the hair follicles on the eyebrow we want to leave in place.
