Fountain of Youth - It May Be Closer Than You Think - RSVP Med Spa

The “fountain of youth” has been pursued since the beginning of time whether through a magical water source, “age-reversing” products, or yoga. When a person hits a certain chronological number, they become very aware of the effects of aging, whether that number is 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60. No one is immune to Father Time. So, is there such a thing as reversing the aging process? There hasn’t been, in reality, until now.
In an article called “Molecular Fountain of Youth” by Nic Halverson on Discovery.com, Nic reports on an important study by a group of biologists lead by UC Berkeley assistant professor of nutritional science and toxicology Danica Chen. The study focused on one protein called SIRT3, in a class of proteins called surtuins which regulate aging. The biologists found that the protein is very critical in helping aged stem cells combat oxidative stress–which increases the aging process.
In fact, not only does the SIRT3 protein help combat aging it actually reduces the aging process–it reverses the damage. Chen believes this information is going to help science do more than just elongate life. “It’s not so much about expanding lifespan. More so, I think the most important goal is to prevent and ultimately treat age-related diseases,” she said. “The idea is that if we can prevent aging, we can prevent all the diseases that are associated with aging. That’s really the major goal.”
In the meantime, until science can actually introduce this protein into reality, there are skin-related treatments to help with the aging process:

  • IPL Photofacial – With the use of intense pulse light (IPL), photofacials can treat many signs of aging, including sun spots and fine lines–stimulate collagen production.
  • Laser – This treatment can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acnescars and stretch marks.  Light energy from the microbeams targets and require the skin to regenerate itself.
  • Nonsurgical Skin Tightening –  radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening-contracts and stimulates collagen production to create a firmer appearance-controlled radio waves heat the skin’s dermal layer.
