Skin Resurfacing

DEKA DOT

Deka has invented the SmartXide DOT system that combines “traditional” and “fractional” resurfacing, offering an ultra-versatile treatment that can be tailored to the demands of each patient. DOT therapy uses microscopic dots to renew and rejuvenate the skin, minimize wrinkles, reduce facial scars and improve skin firmness.

How does it work?

DOT Therapy employs the latest fractional technology, which treats only a fraction of the skin at a time. The laser uses specially modulated beams of light, about the width of a human hair, to penetrate into the skin. These beams of light destroy and contract the old collagen within the wrinkles and incite the body’s natural wound healing process to create new, youthful collagen in the skin. This causes the wrinkles around the eyes to plump up, tighten and soften.

How DOT is Different:

DOT Therapy is a pioneer in the world of CO2 laser resurfacing treatments. Before DOT, many patients endured long, often painful laser resurfacing procedures with lengthy recoveries in order to achieve skin resurfacing. Historically, many procedures involved vaporizing an entire layer and surface of the skin, resulting in significant downtime, discomfort, and prolonged redness. In addition, old CO2 lasers could not treat non-facial areas like the neck and décolletage easily because the skin in these areas did not heal as well as the face. So how is DOT Therapy different or better? The DOT utilizes a ‘dot’ pattern to create thousands of microscopic perforations in the skin while leaving the areas around each ‘dot’ intact. This laser allows for the skin to heal more quickly from the edge of these tiny ‘dots’. The overall procedure is safer, faster and more efficient. Doctors also have more control to customize treatment specifically to the patient and even modify treatment during the procedure for various skin challenges or problem areas.

“I am so happy I resurfaced my face. I struggled with cystic acne for years. Before having this procedure, I would look in the mirror and see all the damage the acne had left behind. Now I look in the mirror and have a great deal of confidence.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is the Deka DOT CO2 laser?

The Deka DOT CO2 is a fractional carbon dioxide laser that resurfaces skin by creating controlled micro-injuries. This triggers collagen production and new skin growth for smoother, tighter, healthier-looking skin.

2. What does it treat?

  • Deep wrinkles & fine lines
  • Sun damage, spots & uneven pigmentation
  • Acne scars & surgical scars
  • Skin laxity (looseness)
  • Large pores
  • Overall skin texture & tone

3. How does it work?

The laser penetrates the skin with tiny beams of light, vaporizing damaged tissue while sparing surrounding areas. This controlled injury forces the body to heal, replace damaged skin, and build new collagen.

4. Is the treatment painful?

Numbing cream is applied, but patients often describe a hot, stinging, or snapping sensation. Afterward, your skin may feel like a sunburn for several hours to a day. Some patients also report swelling, oozing, or crusting.

5. How long does the procedure take?

Usually 30–60 minutes, depending on the area.

6. What is the downtime and healing process really like?

Recovery is more intense than lighter resurfacing treatments:

  • Days 1–3: Skin is very red, hot, swollen, and may ooze or crust. Sleeping upright may help swelling.
  • Days 4–7: Skin begins peeling heavily, often in sheets. Itching, tightness, and discomfort are common.
  • Days 7–14: Redness lingers, skin remains sensitive, and makeup may still be difficult.
  • Weeks 2–6: Pinkness may continue as skin strengthens and remodels.
Expect at least 7–10 days of real social downtime, sometimes longer depending on treatment strength.

7. How many sessions are needed?

Noticeable results may be seen after one strong treatment, but deeper scars or wrinkles may need 3 sessions spaced months apart.

8. When will I see results?

Smoother texture and brighter tone often appear after the first month, but collagen remodeling continues for 3–6 months. The full results are gradual.

9. How long do results last?

Results may last for years with good skincare and sun protection, but natural aging will continue. Some patients choose periodic maintenance treatments once 6-12 months.

10. Who is the best candidate?

Patients with lighter to medium skin tones, wrinkles, scars, or sun damage. Darker skin tones are at higher risk of pigmentation changes and may not be ideal candidates.

11. Can it treat areas besides the face?

Yes, it is commonly used on the neck, chest, and hands, though downtime and risks are similar.

12. What should I avoid before treatment?

  • Sun exposure/tanning for at least 2 weeks
  • Retinoids, acids, or strong skincare for 5–7 days
  • Blood-thinning medications or supplements (ask your provider)
  • If prone to cold sores, pretreatment medication is often recommended

13. What is aftercare like?

  • Keep skin constantly coated with healing ointment (Aquaphor, Vaseline) for several days
  • Gentle cleansing, no scrubbing or picking
  • Strict sun avoidance during healing and daily sunscreen once skin is closed
  • No makeup until skin barrier has fully healed (about 7–10 days)
  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, sweating, or workouts for at least 1 week

14. What are the real risks and side effects?

  • Expected: redness, swelling, oozing, peeling, itching, discomfort, crusting, and lingering pinkness for weeks.
  • Possible: infection, acne flare-ups, hyperpigmentation (dark spots), hypopigmentation (light spots), prolonged redness, scarring, or textural changes.
  • Risks are minimized by strict aftercare and choosing an experienced provider.

15. Why choose Deka DOT CO2 despite the downtime?

Because it delivers dramatic, long-term improvements in wrinkles, scars, and sun damage that lighter treatments can’t match. While downtime is significant, many patients feel the results are worth it.
